The brief
The Patient Safety Federation web site seeks to improve patient safety in all areas of healthcare within the NHS South Central region. Ridgeway were asked to review and redesign an existing web site with several operational issues which were limiting the potential of the scheme.
With a limited budget, Ridgeway were given two months to complete the project from start to finish.
What we did
We spent time with the PSF team understanding the different focuses of the Federation’s eight workstreams, the target audience for the web site and analysing what aspects of the old web site did and didn’t work. We then proposed a series of changes, central to which was a complete revision of the web site’s content structure, access policy and design.
A new user interface was developed, incorporating existing visual assets and in accordance with NHS design guidelines. The site was moved onto Kentico’s easy-to-use CMS system and training given to NHS staff in how to update and add content to the web site.
The results
The new web site was launched ahead of the deadline ready to be presented at the PSF's annual conference the following week. The web site continues to be managed and updated by NHS staff with minimal on-going maintenance costs – a key requirement for the solution given current austerity measures in the public sector.
Most important of all, the new web site presents advice, guidelines and new research data to healthcare professionals in a clear, accessible and easily navigable manner. With the web site also optimised for good search engine rank, the Federation’s recommendations are now more readily available than ever before.
